PFTS Index is calculated since October 1, 1997. The initial value of the index was equal to 100 points. It reflects the current condition of the Ukrainian securities market on the basis of price development of the most liquid equities of Ukrainian issuers admitted to trading on the PFTS. It is a capitalization-weighted index; the calculation of its values is performed in real time.

The rules and the procedure of calculation of PFTS index was developed with the direct participation of the PFTS Index Committee comprised of the leading financial market analysts and representatives of the professional community.

Since 1997 the PFTS index is the official index of Ukraine in the S & P Emerging Markets.
